Did you know that frequent handwashing with soap for 20 seconds is one of the most effective ways to reduce the spread of COVID? Do you wash your hands frequently?
A survey conducted in London in August 2020 surveyed 2,000 British adults to learn about their hand hygiene habits before and during the pandemic. The results were surprising! The survey found:
78% are now washing their hands more frequently.
85% wash their hands after sneezing - up from 30% before the pandemic.
83% wash their hands after coughing - up from 45% before the pandemic.
40% wash their hands after using a smartphone - up from 20% before the pandemic.
Half are using hand sanitiser more often.
20% wash their hands more for personal hygiene reasons, 13% do so out of fear of contracting COVID-19 and only 5% do it to protect others.
It is vital to wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with an alcohol-based hand sanitiser or wash them with soap and water. Doing so eliminates germs including the COVID-19 virus that may be on your hands.
Remember, it is everyone’s responsibility to sanitise hands regularly and thoroughly, especially as restrictions ease and we are given more freedom. We could all use an extra hand sanitiser; keep it on your desk, in your break room at work or leave it in your car.
